In the latest episode of the Activity Quest podcast, Bex visits the Little Angel Theatre in London to learn about puppeteering and a special show called The Wolves in the Walls!
The show is based on the Neil Gaiman book of the same name.
The Wolves in the Walls is a story about Lucy, a girl who hears strange noises in her house and believes there are wolves living in the walls.
Her family dismisses her until the wolves actually appear and chase them! The story explores courage, bravery, and the idea that things may not always be as scary as they seem…
Bex meets Toby Olié, the director and designer of the show, who shares the process of turning the book into a puppet-filled production.
The show is a mix of puppetry and animation, with wolf puppets and movable screens creating different environments!
We also find out how to make shadow puppets at home!
Shadow puppets are 2D cutouts that cast shadows when a light shines through them.
They are one of the oldest forms of puppetry, originating in China over 2,000 years ago.
