The Explorer by author Katherine Rundell won the Costa Children’s Book Award earlier this week!
The awards celebrate the most outstanding books of the year written by authors based in the UK and Ireland.
Bex sat down in The Club and spoke to Katherine Rundell before Christmas about The Explorer and what it felt like to be shortlisted…
I’m so stunned and thrilled and wildly honoured that The Explorer has won the Costa Children’s Book Award. It was a superb shortlist and I know it will have been the closest of close calls. https://t.co/wMipYjHgVH

The book is all about a group of kids who crash hundreds of miles from civilisation in the Amazon rainforest.
Fred, Con, Lila and Max are alone and they’re in grave danger. They have no food, no water and no chance of being rescued…
As they negotiate the wild jungle they begin to find signs that something, or someone, has been there before them!
Could this be their way out, or are things about to take a nasty turn?
