Vanessa told 15-year-old FILMCLUB Young Ambassador Shaguftah – whose first reporting assignment was to interview the star – about why she believes watching a wide variety of films is so important for young people; “Watching a wide range of films gives you more knowledge – it opens your eyes to different aspects of life that you probably wouldn’t normally ponder yourself. It’s an amazing creative outlet, it allows you to inspire your mind and think about different things…it’s a getaway. Watching movies is an amazing escape from your present. It allows you to kind of be free.”
As a modern re-telling of the classic Beauty and the Beast fairytale, Beastly follows a long tradition of fairytales being brought to life on the big screen. If you like the look of Beastly – which is released in UK cinemas on 22 April – why don’t you also try some other cinematic tales with similar themes, with these FILMCLUB recommendations…
- La Belle Et La Bete (PG) – the magical French version of the Beauty and The Beast fairy tale, with effects that must be seen to be believed
- The Elephant Man (PG): Beautiful account of John Merrick, rescued from a cruel circus sideshow by Dr Treves and the possibility of hope and humanity.
- Disney’s Beauty And The Beast (U): Animated classic that proves yet again that true beauty lies not in the way people look, but what is in their heart
- Enchanted (PG): A very modern fairy tale about a cartoon character who enters the real world, Enchanted is delightful, hilarious and irreverent
