Almost every radio station has a website where you can find out more about the shows and the presenters. You can often also listen online. Of course, there’s more to the internet than websites – social media platforms are great for radio stations as it’s where their listeners like to spend time too!
Fun Kids is no different and so along with our website, we have a Twitter page, a Facebook page and lots of really cool YouTube Channels. So how do we create all those posts, pictures and videos? Well, it’s the work of the online team who are busy every day coming up with new things to share.
If you’ve been on the Fun Kids website before – like you are now. Yes you, reading this! You’ll know there’s a LOT going on. As well as being able to enter competitions, you can listen to the ten Fun Kids stations online and also listen to podcasts like Science Weekly and Nancy and the Meerkats. You can also find our tasty recipe for chocolate rice krispie cupcakes and fun things to do.
Now you might be wondering how we know what sort of things to put online in the first place – how do we know what you’ll want to click on – and what you won’t!
One of the things that we look at every day is a dashboard – that’s a webpage that shows us how we’re doing. It tells us how many people have visited the website and what pages they’ve looked at. It also shows how many people are listening to us online and also which of our podcasts are being downloaded – and how often.
It’s always nice to see lots of big numbers, but we are really interested in how it’s changed over the past days, weeks and months. Is there something that kids are really interested in? Is there something they’ve stopped liking? Are there things that we should be doing more of – or less?
It would be easy for Fun Kids to just play the songs we like or talk to the people we want to hear from, but that wouldn’t be fair. It’s the information from listeners that we need to keep an eye on.
And that’s why we LOVE hearing from you guys – our listeners! Whether you contact us through the app or email, or even post a letter, we want to know what you think about Fun Kids and find out more about you!
So as you can see, the radio part of a radio station is just that – one part of a much bigger whole when you take into account the internet, and all the places people might want to find us online.
