Robot from the Fun Kids Breakfast Show has got himself a new pal – Korneliusz Kog from Poland – the trouble is Robot doesn’t know any Polish words!
Robot’s downloaded a Polish language pack so he can talk to his friend and Sean’s said that if he learns the words, he’ll help him remember them by building them in Minecraft!
Something English kids have in common with Polish kids is their love of computers!
Like Korneliusz, lots of children in Poland enjoy playing Minecraft but there are other popular games too. Lego and Harry Potter games are big hits – as well as Sim City.
And just like in the UK kids love their mobile phones and play games on them too – like Pokemon Go. They use messaging apps too – Messenger and WhatsApp, and Snapchat. So once you know a few Polish words you can message your new friends in all your favourite ways!
So now let’s get talking! Today we’re checking out a letter which looks like an English letter – but sounds a bit different… w [V]
This letter looks like a W but it’s not pronounced “wuh” it’s “vuh“.
It appears in many Polish words – sometimes at the start – like in the word Wideo [vi-DE-o]
And the word for a cart – like a horse might pull? It’s wóz [VOSS] – sometimes its slang for a car too.
The word for water is woda – [VODDER]
VUH appears in the middle of words too – the word for seagull and the word for grass. Seagull is mewa – [MEVVA] and grass is trawa – [TRAWA].
