Dan and Bex are on a road trip. They’re thinking about car parks – it can already be hard to park now, but what about in the future when there are even more cars on the road?
To cope with the growing numbers of vehicles, multi-storey car parks were introduced from the 1950s, using stacked levels to fit in a large number of cars.
The designs at the time were thought to be impressive with looping ramps to help cars change levels.
Many are still around today, although the size of the spaces can often be on the small side for modern cars.
Modern car parks are changing to accommodate all types of vehicles and the changing ways we are travelling.
Modern multi-storeys can have entire floors just for bicycles, and we can expect to see many more bays for electric cars in the future.
