They’ve been in the works for a while but we haven’t seen them on the roads yet.
That’s because it’s not just the technology inside the cars that has to evolve – it’s the technology of… everything!
Driverless cars need to gather information about what’s going on around them. They’ll need to communicate with other cars so they can tell if another car is indicating or changing direction – so they don’t cause a crash.
Some of that technology is already in use. Driverless cars will be constantly updated about the roads – and even what’s around the roads.
There are already apps that can tell you the health of your car – like how fuel efficient you have driven and if there are any faults.
There’s so many useful things we’ll be able to do with connected cars.
If you needed a car parking space, the car could go online and find out where the nearest one was and even reserve you a space!
