A lot of modern buildings use technology in lots of new and exciting ways.
Lights might only switch on if someone’s in the room and the heating or air conditioning might switch on only if someone’s in the building!
That’s certainly smart.
Think about how your school might already connect technology together at lunchtime.
You might pay for your school dinners with a fingerprint!
A grown-up will upload your dinner money to a payment website and the sensors in the school café upload the amount you’ve spent each day to work out the new balance.
And what about the lifts in school?
What if the lift could diagnose itself, upload the data to the internet and find out how to fix its computer programmes – all without a person having to lift a spanner!
It’s almost as if the buildings are alive!
Remember that it’s important to be careful what digital information we share and with whom.
Often there’s the opportunity to decide for ourselves – if you’re online you may get something called privacy policy to check out.
They’re usually really long or boring but it’s worth getting a grown-up to take a look.
