2. The NFL was founded in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association.
On 17th September 1920, there were ten football teams that came together in Ohio.
This created the American Professional Football Association which is now known as the National Football League (NFL).
That was over 100 years ago and it gets more and more popular every year, with even more teams taking part!
3. There are 32 teams in the NFL.
Within the NFL there are 32 American football teams.
They are divided into two conferences – the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC).
There are 16 teams in each conference and those teams are split into East, North, South and West divisions. Each division has four teams!
Each team is based in a different city or area.

The National Football League is the highest level of professional American football in the world.
That means that all of the top players are in each team and you have to be REALLY good!
5. There are over 200 games in the NFL during 17 weeks.
In each NFL season there are 256 games to be exact!
Each American football team plays 16 games across 17 weeks.
The season is between September and December. The 12 teams who make it through then go to the playoffs in January.

7. NFL Players earn an average of two million dollars a year!
Did you know that NFL players earn a lot?
The typical salary for an NFL player is 2 million dollars!
It depends on the players performance, team and contract – so they don’t all get paid the same.
Some of the highest paid players earn millions and millions!
8. You would struggle to get season tickets for The Green Bay Packers in a lifetime.
The Green Bay Packers are one of the oldest teams in the NFL, founded in 1919.
They have very enthusiastic fans and because of this have a very long waiting list for a season ticket.
There are over 100,000 people in the list and some won’t even get a ticket in their lifetime!
9. NFL players have to wear helmets to protect their heads.
It’s important to keep your head safe when you are playing contact sports.
NFL players didn’t have to wear helmets until 1943.
They now have to wear them in all games and even when they practice.
10. It costs around 7 million dollars for a company to advertise on the Super Bowl!
For a company to advertise on the Super Bowl with a 30 second advert – it’s going to cost them LOADS.
It is believed that a 30 second advert spot would cost a company a huge 7 million dollars!
