Nice

In the South of France on the Mediterranean – and only a 2 hour flight from Birmingham Airport.

I love the south of France – the beaches, sunshine, the beaches, great food – did I mention the beaches? Nice is an amazing holiday destination – it stretches along the Baie des Anges, where the Alps and the Paillon River meet the sea. So as well as the beaches, there’s also wooded hills and mountains to explore.

Nice Old Town or “Vieux Ville” is crammed full of atmosphere. I loved the narrow streets around Place Rossetti where you just soak up what Niçoise culture was like. There’s so many shops selling local fruits, yummy cheeses and fresh bread. My favourite? The amazing selection of ice creams and sorbets at the Fenocchio Ice-Cream Parlour. I kept the plastic spoon for my scrap-book.

You need to climb up Castle Hill – it was the first area of Nice to be inhabited by the Greeks two millennia ago. It’s a great park – lots of shady trees and rushing waterfalls, and at night is illuminated with special lighting effects. And to help get back down, I took a ride on the Little Tourist Train – it was great to see people leaping out of the way. You’ll get some great photos here for your scrapbook

All that sight-seeing made me hungry – but what a place to be hungry in! As you walk around, you can try a local pancake which is called ‘Socca’ from the street food stalls. I also loved ‘Salade Niçoise’ – a bed of greens topped with fresh tomatoes, green beans, olives and sometimes eggs and tuna. The perfect meal after a hot day on the beach!

I love being able to remember the trips that I have done.
