Kids’ Guide to Gibraltar

Explore the world with Zoom!

Hi, it’s Zoom here from Birmingham Airport!

I love travelling and keeping a record of all the places I’ve visited in my scrapbook!

Check out this entry from Gibraltar!

Gibraltar

Gibraltar is a small country at the entrance to Meditteranean.

It’s just under 3 hours from Birmingham Airport.

Did you know that Gibraltar is actually part of the UK?

You’ll spot bobbies on the beat and red telephone boxes – just like at home!

Well… apart from the fact that you’re on a huge rock only 9 miles from Africa… Oh and there’s loads of monkeys!

If you like caves, under the Rock of Gibraltar there’s a labyrinth of tunnels!

In fact there’s 32 miles of tunnels! It’s so honeycombed, I’m not sure how it still stands up!

Higher up on the rock, visit Apes’ Den, home to Gibraltar’s Barbary monkeys.

According to legend, if the apes leave Gibraltar it will cease to be British.

Now while they look cuddly, remember these are wild animals and will bite if frightened or annoyed so no monkey business… One almost stole my camera while I photographed it for my scrapbook!

If you like graffiti art like Banksy, check out ‘City Under Siege’ at Willis’ Magazine! You’ll find graffiti that’s almost 300 years old!

It’s thought that soldiers mounting guard used to spend their time drawing graffiti so they didn’t fall asleep during the long hours of duty!

I love being able to remember the trips that I have done.

Why don’t you create a scrapbook of your holidays? It could be online like mine, or in a book or on your computer!
