All week we’ve been asking you to vote for your Fun Kids Favourite author!
In a special show at
Remember, the person with the most votes wins. Then we take all the names of the people who were in the top ten, shuffle them up, and crown them as your runners-up.
And the winner was…
David Walliams!
Hundreds of you said David Walliams was your Favourite Author!
He’s written
His latest book, Fing, came out on February 21st 2019.
The Boy in The Dress has even been announced as a musical, starting at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2019!
Well done David! 👏👏👏
David wasn’t the only person to get loads of votes though!
It was a really close contest – these are the authors, in no particular order, that came in the top ten.
Similar to Walliams, it’s no surprise that Roald Dahl did very well! His stories continue to amaze and inspire you. How splendiferous!
Enid Blyton also did very well. She’s the author of books such as The Famous Five, the Secret Seven, and Noddy.
Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling was the top-ranking female in our Favourite Author vote.
It’s been a while since we’ve had any children’s books from J.K., but she’s been busy writing adult books under pseudonyms.
A pseudonym is a made-up name, a bit like Lemony Snickett, C.S. Lewis, or Dr. Seuss!
Of course, we’ve also had some screenplays from Mrs. Rowling. Namely the Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them series!
Julia Donaldson, author of the Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, and Zog came in your top ten, along with Michael Morpurgo.
As well as serving as Children’s Laureate from 2003 to 2005, Michael’s written over 100 books including War Horse and Kensuke’s Kingdom!
Someone else who’s written loads of books and landed in the top ten is Jacqueline Wilson. Jacqueline’s latest book, My Mum Tracy Beaker, came out in October 2018.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid author Jeff Kinney was also somebody in your top ten favourite authors. The first Diary of A Wimpy Kid book came out in 2007 and since then have sold over 200 million copies!
Truth Pixie author Matt Haig also made it! The Truth Pixie is the naughty little sister to Haig’s festive series, which includes A Boy Called Christmas, The Girl Who Saved Christmas and Father Christmas and Me.
Remember, we’ve shuffled this top ten list so although Tom Fletcher is last here, it doesn’t mean he was last in your top ten! Tom used to be part of a band called McFly. He’s written loads of books too, including The Christmasaurus and The Creakers!
Thanks for voting and well done to all the top ten authors!
