In this episode, we’re taking a colossal journey into the world of super structures – those awe-inspiring giants of engineering and design that leave us marveling at human ingenuity!
Picture buildings that touch the sky, bridges that stretch over vast distances, and structures that redefine what’s possible. These engineering marvels are not just about size; they’re about the incredible brains behind them, pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
Hosts Lloydie and Becky kick things off by introducing us to some of the world’s most impressive super structures. From the Statue of Unity in India, the tallest statue in the world, to the Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge in China, which spans over 100 miles, they give us a rundown of five monumental feats of engineering. They even highlight the Great Wall of China, a historic icon visible from space!
The journey continues with a look at the Emley Moor Transmitting Tower in the UK and the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, which is as long as four football fields and boasts a pool for every day of the week.
But the true giant among giants is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, standing at a staggering 829 meters tall. Becky and Lloydie delve into the engineering challenges of building this mega tall skyscraper. From its unique design inspired by the Hymenocallis flower to its innovative use of solar panels and water irrigation systems, the Burj Khalifa is a testament to the ingenuity and vision of its creators.
We then go behind the scenes with Zainab Adigun, who shares her experiences working on these towering triumphs. She even reveals some of her favourite super-sized projects, including a floating swimming pool!
